It was an emotional victory for Souths as they broke a 43-year drought.
They did it the hard way with the Bulldogs fighting to the death but in the end they had too much class.
Rabbitohs scored the first try in the game through Alex Johnson and dominated the first half leading 6-0 at half time.
In the second half, Doggies made a comeback with their first try to Tony Williams to level the score 6-6 after a successful conversion.
In the 56th minute big George wound up and bumped off player after player as he raced 20 metres to score 12-6 after a successful conversion.
The pressure was back on the Bulldogs to respond but Souths were given a penalty through a shoulder charge by James Graham on Dave Tyrell.
A successful goal from Reynolds brought the score to 14-6.
However Tyrell was not in good shape suffering injury to his mouth and was carried off in a stretcher with 12 minutes to go till full time.
Rabbitohs were on fire scoring two more tries through Adam Reynolds and Greg Inglis taking the score to 30-6 at full time.
Sam Burgess, who was left in tears after the win, took out the Clive Churchill medal during the presentation.
