Two Police Officers who bashed up a university lecturer found

POLICE in Port Moresby have identified the two officers involved in the alleged assault of a university lecturer a week ago in Port Moresby.
National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa said he had ordered senior detectives to fast track investigations into the assault on University of Papua New Guinea lecturer Francis Essy.
Other officers involved would be questioned.
“I want to see appropriate actions taken against these officers,” Bawa said.
He said a formal complaint was lodged with the 6-Mile internal investigations unit on Thursday.
He said the police would like to establish positive relationships with the people but these (police brutality) reports hindered those efforts.
Bawa urged officers to refrain from using unnecessary force or restrain from using force as much as possible.
There are instances where National Capital District police command have taken disciplinary actions against officers who have broken the rules.
“Only a few are misbehaving compared to the majority of the police population,” he said.
Bawa urged the public to report police unethical behaviour and warned that he would not hesitate to sack officers who were involved.
“Police are allowed to use reasonable force when the situation is life threatening to them and others,” he said.
