University of Goroka gets new dorm
Deputy PM Leo Dion officially opened a new dorm for the University of Goroka this afternoon.
Present for the opening was Eastern Highlands Governor Julie Soso and the Minister for Higher Education Malakai Tabar.
The dorm funded by the National Government comes at a cost of K170 million and was built by Guong Dong Construction Limited of China.
Although it is yet to be decided whether it will be a girls or boys dorm, the Deputy PM told all in attendance that education was of the utmost importance to the government and that this was only a small part of what the government has in store for the country's education sector.
Meanwhile, the university will see an increase in the intake of students next year with the opening of 4 NEW seven story dormitories today.
The University VC Dr. Gairo Onagi speaking at the occasion says the opening of the dorms marks the effort by the university to achieve the governments goal to have more well trained n quality teachers for the country.
He Says also that with this they still aim to achieve the Medium Term Development Goals n will continue to have more programs in the school n more teaching staff as well to achieve the goals to have quality teachers n education.
He thanks the PNG Government and the Peoples Republic of China for this big project for the school.
