He said mobile phones distracted students from their studies.
“Even adults are distracted by mobile phones so just compare that to the kids in school,” Ipatas said.
“Students in tertiary institutions using mobile phones are reasonable but why are we giving mobile phones to primary and secondary school students.”
Ipatas said students must understand that education was important in their lives.
“Students must take advantage of the free education policy and take ownership of their education,” he said.
He said there were no laws in place to control what people could access on the internet. “Mobile phones are corrupting our children and making them become lazy and dependent,” Ipatas said.
He said the social networks were disturbing students from doing their school work.
He added that parents and teachers should not allow students in primary and secondary schools to use mobile phones.
“There must be rules in secondary and primary schools to ban students from using mobile phones,” Ipatas said.
“And parents must not give mobile phones to their children as it makes them lazy and dependent.
