PNG to take on Philippines in first Cabramatta match
The Emerging Kumuls PNG team will take on Philippines 2 in their first match of the Cabramatta 9’s tournament this weekend in Sydney, Australia.
A total of 32 teams are taking part in the tournament with teams pooled in eight pools of four for the round robin matches.
PNG is pooled with America Samoa, Malta 1 and Philippines 2. They play Malta 1 in their second round robin match then play America Samoa.
The winners will proceed to the final play offs for the Bowl, Plate, Trophy and Cup.
PNG Rugby Football League chief executive officer Brad Tassell said the boys had adjusted well and were enjoying the training.
“It’s a bit cooler in Sydney at the moment which is a good relief for the players.
“They have had full access to the Penrith panthers training facilities and staff so the experience has been a good one for them.
“We are expecting a good performance on Saturday against some high quality teams,” Tassell said.
