Papua New Guinea Opposition Leader Don Polye says the government’s political gimmick on shifting blame to rats for damaging the cables on its financial system is again ‘an embarrassment and a laughingstock’ to the people.
“Such blame is not only a setup smoke-screen by the government to deceive our people and the contactors under the pretext of its quest for money to settle its outstanding commitments.
“It is an excuse to cover up the government’s inefficiency in managing the economy,” said Mr Polye who was responding to a media report ‘Rats Halt State Cash Flow’.
He said this was another symptom of the state’s coffers being dry and the unsettlement of teachers leave fares is other among others.
He said the cable manufacturers were very mindful of materials they used in producing cables and that such product is resistant to rat-bites or any other insects for that matter.
“The most modern material used in computer cables is optic fibre with heavy insulation. These types of cable are very reliable and of high quality in all working conditions,” he said.
The Opposition Leader has reiterated his call on the government to admit to the people that the public accounts have no money and the lack of liquidity in the public sector.
“Our people are fed up with the government’s chronic cover-up tactics to make its incompetency in managing the country’s economy looking good.
“The government’s new year resolution should be telling the truth to our people in all its business dealings because our people are intelligent and wise to distinguish between the truth and the lie,” Polye said.
“I urge Peter O’Neill to just simply give up as a failed PM who is incapable of telling the truth but is only capable of squandering funds on areas without economic justifications. He should step aside,” he said.
