Two shot dead in Police shoot out at Hanuabada village in Port Moresby
Two people are dead and two others are now in ICU, believed to have been assaulted by Port Morsby Police during an alleged raid at a market in Hanuabada village in Port Moresby. Frustrated villagers marched all the way to the Police Headquarters demanding a K10M compensation. They even brought along with them, the bodies of the deceased.
Police Commissioner Geoffry Vaki has assured the people that an immediate investigation will be carried out and those found guilty will be dealt with.
It all started after Police ten seater loaded with armed policemen came into Hanuabada Village and started destroying the market, smashing vendor’s eskies and assaulting mothers and the public selling at the market.
The youths in the area saw that the manner in which the police conducted themselves were not in a good manner, so they tried to intervene and mobilized to stop the assault.
In retaliation the policemen open fired in which they shot four youths which resulted in the death of one.
Currently the villagers have blocked off the road from freeway leading into Hanuabada village as well as the by-pass road opposite the Police headquarters with stones, irons and burning tyres.
Police Commissioner and his team of senior ranking officers are mediating with community leaders of HB to find away in solving the situation and meeting the people’s demands of K10million.
