BSP School Kriket Going beyond boundaries

In 2014, it reached more than 162,483 children, reaching 10 regional centres, staging 31 cricket carnivals and 108 competitions. 162,483 children is the second highest in the history of BSP School Kriket.
The BSP School Kriket Programme has been awarded the best Overall Development Program in the ICC Regional (EAP) Awards in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. Four consecutive years. In 2010 and 2011 the programme won the Best Junior Initiative ICC Regional (EAP) Awards, and went on to winning the same for the Global Awards.
Sponsored by BSP and managed by Cricket PNG the BSP School Kriket programme plans to reach 150,000 children this year. Considering its past successes, this target may well be surpassed. Apart from 150,000, CPNG will target 4,500 students who will take part in the BSP School Kriket Blast, which is a one-day softball interschool cricket competition. Schools who register for the BSP School Kriket Programme will be invited to take part in this competition which will take place at the end of each school term,
Cricket PNG Game Development Manager Gayan Loku announced these ambitious targets during the official launch of the 2015 season of the BSP School Kriket Programme today at the June Valley Primary in Port Moresby.
He attributed the success and growth of the junior cricket development to hard work, commitment and stability of the Cricket PNG Administration and the strong support from BSP.
"We will continue to strive to be the leading Junior Sports Development program in PNG and also in the Region (EAP). We are very confident of another successful year in the BSP School Kriket Programme," he said.
"We will also be looking at improving the programme to cater for the different needs of students, teachers and volunteers throughout the year. We are still aiming to make a difference in the lives of young people."
BSP Corporate Sponsorship Manager Rosemary Mawe who officiated at the launch, said the programme is not only about extending the reach, developing and encouraging participation of cricket; it encourages children and communities to lead active, healthy lifestyles, and instils values such as respect and team work.
"It is worth mentioning that since its inception, we have been informed that the programme is in fact changing mindsets, in schools where the program has been run, there has been a drastic change in attitude towards improved school attendance, and improved academic performance," Ms Mawe said.
"The BSP School Kriket's success speaks for itself and we are delighted and committed to sustain the programme among children and communities, and we applaud the tireless efforts by the Cricket PNG team, its Regional Cricket Managers, and Development staff," Ms Mawe added.
BSP commits more than K300, 000 as sponsorship package for the programme and also provides K100, 000 for equipment. BSP staff throughout PNG, also provides support in delivering the programme.
