Incest cases in PNG's East New Britain Province still high

Incest cases in East New Britain Province continues to rise, despite awareness by police and community groups to discourage this practice.
Last week, the National Court in Kokopo found a father guilty of committing incest against her daughter whilst two others convicted of rape.
As reported the trio are now awaiting sentencing.
The three men from Putanagororoi village in the North Coast area of Rabaul, have been convicted with various sexual crimes committed against two sisters.
The biological father of the two sisters, William Lakuna and two other men namely, Jack Matalau and Robert Tiotam.
The offences committed by the father, dates back to 2011 and 2012 while those by the other two men were between 2008 and 2011.
Lakuna was charged with six counts, of which, 4 are for wilfully exposing his private parts to his elder biological daughter and two for committing incest with his younger daughter.
The other two accused, Matalau and Tiotam were each charged with one count of continuous sexual penetration against the younger sister.
The court heard that the offence committed by the father took place in their family house while that committed by the two men took place in the garden near the victim’s house on different dates.
