PNG Opposition leader Don Polye questions Tjandra’s citizenship
Djoko Tjandra |
Papua New Guinea Opposition leader Don Polye is concerned about the granting of citizenship to Indonesian fugitive Djoko Tjandra.
Polye described the fast processing of his citizenship, despite moves made against it, as “a slap in the face for the Indonesian government”.
He said such decisions could damage the mutual relationship between PNG and Indonesia.
“I am calling on the Government to review its decision in granting PNG citizenship status to someone with a questionable character,” Polye said in a statement.
“The Opposition’s alternative government policy in terms of PNG foreign affairs under the theme “enhancing mutual partnership with all” captures respect for PNG’s bi-lateral treaties and conventions.
“The Opposition truly believes that PNG should have peace, commerce and trade and above all honesty with nations.”
He warned the Government to avoid hurting other nations.
“Papua New Guinea needs to abide by Biblical guidelines with regards to foreign relations.”
