Polye welcomes court decision
PORT MORESBY: Parliamentary Leader of Triumph Heritage Empowerment party and designated Opposition Leader Don Polye today welcomed the outcome of the Supreme Court, dismissing his application challenging a lower court’s decision.
The court has allowed the election petition of Alfred Manase to proceed to trial.
“I am calling on the people of Kandep to remain calm, pending the outcome of the trial case presided over by Justice Joseph Yagi,” said Mr Polye.
He said a report in the National, citing ‘Polye won by 94 votes’ was a misreport, adding it should be reputed so that the people are not misled by the misconstrued fact.
“The truth is that I won on primary counts with a total score of 23, 952 votes when the runner up scored only 11, 814.
“To say that I won by 94 votes is a mere misreporting,” Polye said.
He is urging his members, executives and the supporters of THE party nationwide to have confidence in the style of leadership that he provides under difficult circumstances.
“They should not be moved by situations at hand because they are manageable.
“They have to concentrate on their daily endeavours to sustain their living,” he said.
He said everything from his sacking as a deputy Prime Minister or losing court battles was normal to his life.
“Life is a challenge-bound journey and one’s personality is shaped through hard times.
“I have not been swayed by these circumstances because I am focused in performing my new role as the Opposition Leader,” said a determined Polye.
He reiterated that he would continue to fight corruption and other issues affecting the country.
