Bawa applauds Australian Federal Police in PNG
The Australian Federal Police in Papua New Guinea have been praised for their work and assistance in the country. Port Moresby's Metropolitan Superintendent Andy Bawa has applauded their work and assistance in the short time they had spent in the country and provided support to the local force.
“Since the AFP landed in Port Moresby 18 months ago, the command has benefited a lot from the different programmes and activities they have initiated,” he said.
He said capacity-building in frontline policing, senior management training, workshops, infrastructure development and placement programmes in Australia were some of the areas that the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary had received assistance in.
“This is a lot of work from a small team of dedicated officers who have sacrificed the comforts of their home to assist fellow police officers in Papua New Guinea,” Bawa said.
“I am very impressed with the amount of work they have done and achieved,” he said.
He said 10 senior officers from different sections of the force travelled to Canberra, Australia for a weeklong placement programme on Saturday.
“This was an opportunity for the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary members to experience policing in a different environment and in a different setting,” Bawa said. The placement programme is one of AFP’s ongoing programme. Previously they had sent officers for a month in Australia.
