Boat carrying Pacific Games Relay Baton capsized

The boat carrying the Pacific Games Relay Baton capsized in the Sisanno Lagoon last night, with the Baton taking a dive into the sea.
But the determined Relay team managed to retrieve the Baton, and concluded its journey in West Sepik Province today before heading to neighboring East Sepik Province.
The District Administrator of Aitape, John Ainap, told the NBC Dabai Program today, the Baton was to have arrived at Sisanno Lagoon from Vanimo at half-past-one yesterday afternoon.
Mr. Ainap says, the Baton arrived very late, and with the sea rough, the boat ca
rrying it, capsized about 100 meters from the shoreline:
"This particular lagoon is, it normally gets rough but the boat with the baton came in at about half past six in the evening.
"They actually came into the lagoon and were about to go back into the ocean, that's about quarter to 7.
"It was dark and I don't think they saw the waves properly, that was why the incident happened. But the baton has been recaptured".
John Ainap says, the Baton is however in good condition and is continuing its journey.
He's appealing to islanders involved in the relay to study weather patterns when traveling with the Baton along the coasts, in order to avoid such incidents.
