PNG Hunters beat Northern Pride 36 - 16
The Papua New Guinea Hunters have thrashed Northern Pride with a score of 36 - 16 in round 9 of the Intrust Super Cup at the Kalabond oval in Kokopo. This is the first time the Hunters have come out winners against the defending champions.
The score in the first have was 10 all. Both teams scored two tries each in the first half.
In the second half, the Hunters with their homeground advantage and support from the cheering crowd fired up to score first through Ase Boas to take the lead 16 - 10.
Another try from the coal train, Wille Minoga who bulldozes his way through and slams the ball down extended the lead with successful conversion from Jennings to 22 - 10.
Wera crossed over for the Hunters again to extend the lead to 26 - 10.
Pride fought back hard with a try through Cameron King to reduce the margin 26 - 16. The Hunters forwards were outstanding and made way for Kato Ottio to score for the Hunters again and led 30 - 16.
Boas sent Wera in for his second try following a beautiful move by the Hunters that saw the ball travel through several pairs of hands for Wera to dive over to the delight of the Kalabond crowd.
Oti Bland Tony stepped up to add another two points for a 36-16 scoreline.
