PNG Hunters bury Norths Devils 34 - 16
The Papua New Guinea Hunters have held off determined Norths Devils in the second half by beating them 34 - 16 in round 10 of the Intrust Super Cup match. The Hunters took a commanding lead in the first half with 28 - 6 before the Devils fought back in the second half.
The Hunters started off well with first half dominances with good defence and in attack that resulted in 5 unanswered tries through Wera, Brandy Peter, Ase Boas and captain Israel Eliab .
Hunters first try came from Brandy Peter in the fifth minutes into the game with a conversion by Noel Zeming that gave Hunters the lead, 6-0.
In the ninth minute Boas scored with another successful conversion by Noel Zeming which saw Hunters move up by six points to 12-0.
Wera scored his first try 17 minutes into the game at the right hand corner. An unsuccessful conversion by Zemming left Hunters still in the lead 16-0.
Five minutes later skipper Israel Eliab scored the fourth try off a line break by Brandy Peter. A successful kick had Hunters maintain their lead 22-0.
Adex Wera scored his second try six minutes later and Zeming converted for a 28-0 scoreline.
North lacked defence but improved in attack to score their first try 33 minutes into the game, 28-6 followed by a successful conversion.
In the second half, North fought back scoring two quick tries to reduce the margin to 28-16. A determined Hunter held off constant attack from the Devils.
The Hunters sealed the game with a late try from Abavo in the left hand corner and Zeming found the uprights to take the win 34- 16 at full time.
