PNG Opposition leader Don Polye calls for ban lift
PNG Opposition Leader Don Polye has called on P-N-G and Australian governments to resolve the current diplomatic row between the two countries over Australia's intention of establishing foreign post on Bougainville.
P-N-G government has imposed an indefinite ban on Australians traveling to the Autonomous region, in response.
Mr Polye said the two governments need to sit down, discuss and correct this misunderstanding.
He said this issue has surfaced due to misunderstandings on establishing of foreign missions in any country that one has bilateral relations with.
Mr Polye said there's nothing wrong with Australia establishing its trade mission on Bougainville, calling on the travel ban to be lifted.
Mr. Polye told reporters this afternoon, the most important thing between the P-N-G and Australian Governments is the people of Bougainville.
He said, it is the lives and well-being of women, children and men that must supersede any differences the two nations have.
