Promoting a Culture of saving and budgeting
BSP is helping more Papua New Guineans get into the culture of saving and budgeting so they can manage their finances much better.By knowing how to budget and save, people can alleviate and reduce some of the stress involved in managing money better, spend within means, and eventually save for a rainy day or for something special.
93 employees of Consort Express Lines in Lae were the most recent participants of financial literacy training on Savings and Budgeting rolled out by BSP. The training was delivered over a two month period and the participants graduated last Saturday. This is by far the biggest group of participants that have gone through BSP Financial Literacy Program.
These participants can now go out and teach other people on how to save and budget.
Program Participant Ken Keily said that he was happy that he had gone through the program as he has seen immediate impacts of the program. "There is a big gap in Papua New Guinea with the personal financial management. I see the BSP Financial Literacy program is one way to close that gap," Mr Keily said.
"It's a great course, I learnt a lot from it and I'm really happy that I can now manage my finances well and also help others," He added.
Consort Express Lines General Manger Terry Fuery expressed his gratitude to the bank for rolling out the program to his employees. "I was surprise and pleased to see the number of people taking part in this program and the very positive feedback that we saw from the participants," Mr Fuery said.
"We are grateful for the Financial Literacy program rolling out and there is no doubt our employees have taken a lot out of the program." He added.
BSP Branch Manager at Lae's Top Town branch Agnes Mark said that the onus was on the employees to practice what they've learnt.
"BSP has equipped you with vital tools on Financial Literacy, we are confident you will act as an agent for change and help promote and development the culture of budgeting and savings amongst your friends, family and your communities," Ms Mark added.
BSP has 93 trained Trainers in the Southern, NCD, Momase and NGI Region, with 27 from the Highlands Region to undergo training and certification in June. BSP's Financial Literacy program can be accessible to all, through our Branches and Sub-Branches around the country and it is FREE.
