PNG Hunters beat Tweed Heads Seagulls 32 - 24, register eight straight wins

PNG Hunters have sent signal to the Queensland Cup competition that they are a force in 2015 premiership contention after holding  off fast finishing Tweed Heads Seagulls 32 - 24 in an entertaining  round 15 match of the Intrust Super Cup. It is also a history for the new Hunters club to win eight straight wins in a row.  The Hunters are the only team that have beaten competition front runners like the Townsville Blackhawks and Ipswich Jets.

The Hunters were first to score through Watovo Puara and Zemings found the uprights to take the early lead 6 - 0. They extended the lead with another try to 12 - 0.  The home side regrouped and fought back with two tries but unsuccessful conversion in of the tries showed  them trailing  12 - 10. The Hunters shot a penalty goal to extend the lead 14 - 10 to half time.

In the second half, the Tweed Heads Seagulls scored within five seconds after a short kick off that levelled the score 14 - 14 with unsuccessful conversion. The home side collected another two points from a penalty to steal the lead from the Hunters 16 - 14.

A nice break by Thomson Teteh  and an inside pass to halfback Ase Boas showed the Hunters scored again to reclaim the lead 20 - 16. Another try by Hunters debutant Glare extended the lead to 24 - 16 after Zemmings did not find the uprights.

The home side regrouped and fought hard with two quick tries to level the score 24 all with eight minutes left on the clock.

But this deadlock was broken by Hunters hooker  Watovo Puara after he side-stepped few lazy Seagulls forwards to score next to the uprights. Zemmings found the uprights and Hunters extended their lead to 30 - 24.  A penalty was awarded to the Hunters after Willie Minoga was taken high. With successful conversion from Zemmings showed the Hunters registered eight wins in a row with a score of  32 - 24 on full time.

The Hunters will host the Capras next week in Kokopo.
