SP PNG Hunters Team for Round 15 against Tweed Heads Seagulls announced

The SP PNG Hunters riding a wave of high crescendo following some top class performances need to remain focused as they travel to Brisbane for their Round 15 Intrust Super Cup match against Tweed Heads Seagulls this Sunday.

Last Saturday was somewhat of a climax when they opened the brand new Sir John Guise Stadium in fine style in front of what was the biggest crowd they have played in front of since their debut last year. While it took the PNG side a while to settle down they finished with a bang giving the 15,000 screaming fans in Port Moresby their money’s worth with a resounding 34-12 victory over Souths Logan Magpies. That became the Hunters seventh consecutive win and the challenge becomes more pressing to maintain this impressive run when they face the Seagulls away from home at the Pigabeen Oval at 3pm on Sunday.

Before that they upset competition leaders Townville Blackhawks in Townsville in Round 11 and then returned from a bye to provide a similar dose on second- placed Ipswich Jets at Kalabond Oval in Round 13. Despite last Saturday’s grounding of the Magpies the SP Hunters still remain in fourth spot on 22 points behind second-placed Wynnum Manly Seagulls and Ipswich Jets. Both teams are also on 22 points following their mandatory two points from byes and maintain those positions due to superior percentage – worked out using points for and against.

Hunters coach Michael Marum has made a slight change to his starting line-up promoting Brandy Peter from the bench in place of Kato Ottio who has been ruled out due to injury.

He has brought in Warren Clare into the side naming him on the bench.
