Games Relay Baton in Port Moresby South

Yesterday the Oil Search Pacific Games Relay continued its journey around NCD with the Moresby South electorate hosting the Baton.

The communities of Moresby South showed up in strength to support their MP, the Minister for the Pacific Games, Justin Tkatchenko and their community sporting stars.

Thousands of people lined the streets and followed the Relay as it made its way from Manu Autoport, through Kaugere and Gabutu and then into town and up to Konedobu.

The Relay passed by the villages of Mahuru, Pari, KiraKira and Koki where yet more people joined the sea of people walking with the Baton on its final legs of the Relay.

At Sabama Market crowds packed the sides of the road and standing up on bus stops and buildings to get a view.

School children from all the schools along the route lined up to see the Baton and were swamped as the crowds passed by.

Through town the Games sponsors and corporates got their chance to take part in the relay though struggled to make their way through the crowds to get to each changeover.

A massive turnout, with all continuing to support Team PNG and wish them well.

Following the Relay the Baton was taken to a number of Games Sponsors so that staff could have an opportunity to touch the Baton and take photos, including Puma energy, JDA Wokman, Steamships, BSP, Moore and Petromin.

The Oil Search Pacific Games Relay completes its journey around PNG today with visits to the Motu Koita villages of Baruni, Tatana and Hanuabada and a final farewell function at Sir Hubert Murray Stadium from 5pm, to which all the public are welcome.
