PNG get Silver and Bronze medals in Special Olympics
Papua New Guinea has claimed two medals at the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles, United States.
Judy Moi won PNG's first silver medal with a throw of 2.41m in the shot put final while team mate Grace Dindillo got bronze. Rosa Nege came 7th.
An excited head of delegation Takale Tuna told NBC Sports today he's really proud of their performance.
Adrian Lomon finished 7th in a field of eight in the 200m final with a time of 28.94s against some of the world's best special Olympics athletes.
Tomorrow will see Thompson Ninkama in the 3000m final, Winifred Kehono in the 100m and 200m finals and Adrian Lomon and Mirisa Mana in the 100m finals.
Mana finished 6th in the men's shot put final.
It's been a day of emotions for parents of the PNG athletes who are there to support their children.
Takale Tuna says the parents are proud their children are flying the PNG flag high at the Games.
"For the parents who came here like Judy Moi's family, Grace's family, and also Rosa Nege's mother had tears coming down from their eyes because these athletes have just become so confident that in normal cases, they would be led along to where they are." NBC/Photos: Special Olympics PNG
