PNG Hunters wary of East Tigers backlash
The Papua New Guinea SP Hunters are wary of backlash as they prepare to take on in-form East Tigers in Round 21 of the Intrust Super Cup match this weekend. The Hunters will host the Tigers at the Kalabond Oval in Kokopo. This will be the last game in Kokopo for this year and a buffer crowd is expected to watch the Hunters take on East Tigers.
The Hunters will move to the capital Port Moresby after this game. Three international standard stadiums have been built in Port Moresby. These include Sir John Guise Stadium which has a capacity of 15 000, the National Stadium, formerly PRL has a Capacity of 10 000 and Sir Hubert Murray Stadium with capacity of 20 000.
In a temporary arrangement, the Hunters will use Sir John Guise stadium for their remaining matches.
The Tigers are also coming off a big 56-22 win over the Central Queensland Capras last weekend and will be looking to dish out the same treatment to the Hunters in front of their home crowd.
But the Hunters were impressive last week beating first placed Townsville Blackhawks in a nail biting 28-26 match.
Coach Michael Marum says preparations are going well for Sunday with a good feeling in the camp.
A win for the Hunters will further cement their spot in the top 5 while a loss will produce the opposite.
“This is also an important game for us as we are leaving Kalabond.”
“We’re expecting a big turn out to farewell the team. It’s sad but we have to move on,” said Marum. Sunday’s game starts at 2:30pm.
The game will be live on TVWan Sports.
