They are behind Townsville Blackhawks, but with a better percentage.
The Hunters scored 30 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Wynnum Manly Seagulls, 36 points to 13 yesterday.
The Hunters trailed 6 points to 13 at half-time, through a try to Israel Eliab, converted by Ase Boas.
But they fought back in the second half, with two tries to Kato Ottio, and Stargroth Amean, Willie Minoga, and Adam Korave all crossed the line for a try each.
Half-back Ase Boas kicked 5 conversions and a penalty goal to seal the Hunters win, 36 points to 13.
The Round 23 match was played in Port Moresby.
