BSP PNG Barramundis Squad announced for Round 2 of I-CUP and WCLC

The BSP PNG Barramundis Squad that will be touring the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their Round 2 Inter-Continental Cup (I-Cup) and World Cricket League Championships (WCLC) matches against Afghanistan and Nepal was announced yesterday at Amini Park.

The fifteen (15) man squad will be lead by Jack Vare with Assad Vala appointed his deputy. Majority of the squad are currently in Port Moresby, playing in the Gabba Champions Shield while Lega Siaka, Chad Soper, Hiri Hiri and Nosiana Pokana, will be joining the squad this weekend in Port Moresby as they are currently playing club cricket in Australia.

"We are looking forward another challenge against two strong international teams in Nepal and the Afghanistan over in the UAE,” said a confident CPNG Head Coach, Dipak Patel.

“Playing in UAE conditions is another huge challenge that we face against two different opponents over two different formats in a short period of time. Our preparation haven’t been ideal, however, I’m confident we will perform well after outstanding results in the recently completed SACA League in Australia,” said Patel.

“We have been working on several aspects of our game and I’m very pleased with the progress we are making as a group and as individuals. Our batsmen have been scoring big scores consistently and the bowlers also are in great form taking wickets in all formats. On top of this we’ve selected two new, very exciting players in all-rounder, Hiri Hiri and left arm-fast bowler Nosaina Pokana. Both players earned their selection through some consistent and outstanding performances in the SACA League,” concluded Patel.

The BSP PNG Barramundis will play two (2) warm up matches against Oman and Danube CC (local cricket club), before facing off against Nepal in two (2) WCLC 50 Over Matches at Zayed Cricket Stadium. Following these matches, the Barramundis will take on Afghanistan in the four-day I-CUP match in Sharjah.

In Round 1, the Barramundis upset Netherlands in their debut I-Cup match, but lost both their WCLC matches to the same opponent in June. The Barramundis current sit fourth on the I-Cup Points Table and eighth in the WCLC Points Table.
