Journalist to be summoned to provide evidence on Sam Koims' Contempt of Court
Sam Koim |
The editor in chief of The National Mr. Pama Anio will be summoned to produce evidence before the Waigani National Court for allegations of contempt for a paid publications last month in The National that showed the progressive update on 93 criminal prosecution undertaken by the Task Force Team headed by Chairman Sam Koim.
Justice Collin Makail said that Mr. Anio will be summoned if the objection to the incompetence of the contempt proceeding submitted by Sam Koim’s lawyer is not awarded by the National court next week.
Reportedly a court order was instituted in July 2014 restraining the defendant from discussing this matter openly or through the media or other matters relating to the taskforce or the warrant of arrest on the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
The plaintiff’s council argued that the publication has disobeyed direct court orders for the defendant not to discuss this matter or for the purpose of publication through print, television, radio electronic or social media because the matter is still before the court to decide. Stating that everyone is subjected to the law.
The publication was also shared on Mr. Koim’s face book and tweeter account which became the subject of discussion.
A ruling is expected to be made next week Thursday.
