Polye inspired by pioneer commissioner
Opposition Leader Don Pomb Polye has described the pioneer Electoral Commissioner late Simon Kaumi as ‘a beacon of leadership for many to be inspired by.’
In his condolence message to the relatives and the extended family of late Kaumi, Polye said at the time when most of the people were illiterate, he portrayed a style of leadership inspired by wisdom in the pre-independence era.
“His leadership in preparing PNG for its first election is something the people of Oro should be proud of.
“It has shaped the political history of PNG,” said Polye on behalf his family, the people of Kandep, and the supporters and executives of Triumph Heritage Empowerment party countrywide.
He said when he was carefully studying how the forefathers with little education had charted the country’s destination, it was interesting.
Polye said late Simon had contributed enormously to the socio-economic development of the country in certain positions he had served which also included being a Member of Parliament.
He cited him as the former MP for Ijivitari electorate in Oro province.
“May his soul rest in people,” Polye said.
