Increase in abuse of Girls annoys PNG Opposition

Opposition leaer Don Polye
PORT MORESBY: The Opposition has been irked by a media report on the abuse of girls on the rise.

And the Opposition Leader Don Polye has called on all the custodians of girls like the schools, parents, guardians and the churches among others to become vigilant and exert concerted efforts in addressing the issue.

“As a father of girls, I am concerned that such an inhuman behaviour of a few with ‘sick in the head’ should stop once and for all for the betterment of our country.

“I also urge the courts and law enforcers to apply tougher penalties on such people,” said Mr Polye.

He described the culprits as ‘unfit to live in a normal, ordinary society’ and their acts as ‘intolerable and abhorrent’.

He said they did not deserve to live in the community, adding otherwise their rightful place is the prison camps.

He said the abuse was a slap in the faces of the police and the people because the practice has belittled the existing laws, protecting women and girls.

“I commend those who have reported the matters to the law enforcers and urge others too to assist police in making their work easy,” he said.
