Twins born in different years in the US
Twins born in the US will never share a birthday because even though they were born just minutes apart, they were born in different years.
Jaelyn Valenica was born on New Year's Eve in San Diego at 11:59pm. Her twin brother, Luis Valencia Jr, arrived at 12:01am on New Year's Day.
The babies were due at the end of January, but doctors at San Diego Kaiser Permanente Zion Medical Center called the mother in because one was in a breech position, KGTV-TV reported.
Proud dad Luis Valencia called it a New Year's blessing to have two healthy children.
"I was not really expecting two, so it's a big blessing to have two of them, boy and a girl for New Years," Valencia told San Diego's 10 News.
He said doctor's called them in on Thursday afternoon and they had to deliver the twins as soon as possible.
"It was around midnight and she (Jaelyn) was just popping out, it was crazy seeing her little head pop out first."
After several hours of labour, Maribel Valencia gave birth to the two healthy babies.
Hospital spokeswoman Jennifer Dailard said Jaelyn weighed 4 pounds, 15 ounces, while Luis weighed 5 pounds, 9 ounces.
The Valencias already have a 3-year-old girl, Isabella.
