WATER LEVEL CLOSE TO CRITICAL MARK

Port Moresby residents are advised to be very careful now of how they use water and power at this time after the level at the Sirinumu Dam dropped close to a very critical mark.
According to PNG Power’s latest reports of water level at the dam, the level is now at the 31% mark after only a low record of 12milimetres of rain fell at the Sogeri Mountains last week. The previous report saw the level at 32%. PNG Power is now standing by to switch to emergency mode if the level reaches below the 30% mark this week.
If things get even worse, the Rauna Power Stations will stop producing power leaving all power generators around the city, including the LNG gas turbine to generate power. This might then result in power load shedding added to the water rationing currently on in the city.
Currently the four Rauna Power stations up at Sogeri each produce 10 megawatts of electricity to the city in addition to the generators already supporting the low power capacity.
