Fiji to host the Commonwealth Youth Secretariat for the Pacific Region
Fiji Youth Minister Laisenia Tuitubou confirmed in parliament that talks are underway to finalise the arrangements for the Secretariat.
Tuitubou says discussions are almost complete with funding and manpower already confirmed for the office to be based in Suva.
“Cabinet has approved the MOU and associated budget early last month. Discussions are underway to have the MOU signed on Fiji’s behalf either by the Fiji’s new High Commissioner in London or the senior commonwealth official next visit. On behalf of government the ministry will provide a functional and a convenient office space at low cost to the commonwealth secretariat. The ministry will also provide locally qualified profession and assistant program officer to the secretariat. The Commonwealth Secretariat will appoint a citizen of the commonwealth as a regional representative.”
Fiji will host forty five participants for a regional capacity building workshop funded by the Commonwealth Secretariat in June.
