Governor Ipatas presents Airfare Subsidy to Link PNG
The Enga Provincial Government has lived up to its commitment and partnership with Link PNG by paying up the outstanding Airfare Subsidy from last year.
Enga Governor Sir Peter Ipatas presented a cheque worth of K700, 000 which was part of the K1 million Air fare Subsidies from last year.
Governor Ipatas paid K300, 000 last year but he said he was unable to complete the remaining payment due to the country’s financial situation.
“Despite the Economic crises I had to fulfil my commitment because I see that this service provided by Link PNG has benefited a lot my people who use to travel all the way to Mt Hagen to travel down to Port Moresby but that is not the case anymore”
Governor Ipatas said the Kagamuga Airport in Mt Hagen is a 2 hours drive from Enga and his people have always encountered problems like hold up along the highway and sometime they are robbed by tugs at the town.
“This service has greatly assisted my people, considering their safety, their time and the extra amount of money they burn just to get to Mt Hagen”
Ipatas has requested for Link PNG to increase the number of flights in a day from 1 flight in a day to 2 flights in a day as more people have been travelling in and out of Enga for the last 14 years.
Meanwhile, Air Niugini’s General Manager for Customs and Marketing Mr Dominic Kaumu commanded Enga governor for being consistent with his annual Airfare Subsidies for the last 14 years unlike other provinces that have not been consistent.
Mr Kaumu explained that the Airfare from Port Moresby to Enga is more than the Airfare from Port Moresby to Mt Hagen so the subsidy is paid to cover the remaining cost making the Airfare cost from Enga to Port Moresby similar to Mt Hagen to Port Moresby so in that way, there is no need for people to travel to Mt Hagen.
