Papua New Guinea's Minister of Events, Sports and Tourism, Hon Justin Tkatchenko says Tonga has ample time to prepare for the 2019 hosting of the Pacific Games in Nuku'alofa.

The PNG Minister made the comment while in Tonga with a delegation from his country on a four day assessment visit.

Tkatchenko says their visit was his government's response to a visit by Tonga's Prime Minister, Hon 'Akilisi Pohiva and a delegation to PNG, about two weeks ago.

The Tonga delegation was seeking to understand what a country needs, to be able to host pacific games since she will host the next pacific games in 2019.

He says they would like to help Tonga with the upgrading of its national stadium as a stadium is the "Crown Jewel" of the Pacific Games where the opening and closing ceremonies, track and field events will be held.

He said the three most important things a country must have to successfully host Pacific games are time, money and sustainable facilities.

The PNG delegation consisted of senior government officials, Engineers and Architects.

The team is sharing their experiences of planning and preparing of the South Pacific Games and continues dialogue as well as provides mutual cooperation between the two countries.

While in Tonga the Minister and his delegation met Tonga's Prime Minister Hon 'Akilisi Pohiva, Deputy Prime Minister, Siaosi Sovaleni and Cabinet Ministers.

Tkatchenko and his delegation attended the morning service at the Free Wesleyan Centenary church on Sunday.
