One of the rape suspects apprehended by Police in Lae |
Lae CID have been working tirelessly around the clock with regards to the ROBBERY and RAPE of two female students at Angau School of Nursing.
Upon receiving the report of the incident,I directed CID to work on it at a fast pace.
Good detective work has led to the apprehending of three prime suspects at Banana Camp Settlement at the back of Cassowary road next to Bumbu river.
Police investigation narrowed down possible suspects leading to the raid being conducted by Lae based Detectives. Four suspects were apprehended at the settlement. After screening,it was concluded that three of them were part of the gang of five.
One of the suspects is known to Police as he has been apprehended and charged many times for break and enter stealing in and around top town area, especially shops and Cassowary road residential area.
Upon conducting search in their houses, the prime suspect(repeat offender) had with him clothes that matched the description given by the victims. It was a woollen green camouflage colored pull over and a pair of cut jeans. Police searched the cut jeans and found the spare keys to room 6 of the girl's dormitory.
The three have been positively identified by one of the victims. There are two other suspects and their identity is known by Police. I am confident that my team will make arrests soon.
Properties belonging to the victims have also been recovered. A lap top and mobile phone belonging to one of the victims. A man from Markham who also lives at the same settlement has been apprehended and arrested by Police for conveying stolen property. He was the person who took the stolen loot to go and sell.
The properties were recovered and suspects arrested from information given by the three suspects who carried out the ROBBERY and rape.
All three suspects are from different Districts in Enga Province.
I commend my Investigators for being able to locate and arrest the three prime suspects within 48 hours after the crime had been committed. I had the confidence in them that they could do it so was pushing them to get results. Very good Detective work.
