YWAM extends Health Services in PNG
The medical ship that delivers health services along the isolated coast areas of PNG, MV YWAM Pacific Link which is currently serving Karkar Island in Madang Province is now joined by the new ship MV YWAM PNG which will serve the Southern Region and later move to Momase in June.
Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Australia has been serving Papua New Guinea since 1969 and with the help of the Papua New Guinean government purchased the new MV YWAM PNG least year. Patron of YWAM Australia Hon. Mike Reynolds said purchasing and operating a ship without partnership is impossible and thanked the PNG Government.
The medical ship MV YWAM PNG fully equipped with 4 new dental chairs and an on-board day clinic especially for eye operations will benefit the people of coastal isolated areas of PNG.
According to Hon. Reynolds the ships will be working 11 months in six Momase and Southern Region provinces with a month off to be services in Australia before returning to PNG.
With the new Memorandum of Agreement (MoU) signed between the PNG National Youth Development Authority and YWAM, medical student and workers including youths in PNG now have an opportunity to serve on-board this ship with exposure to the skilled expertise of the on-board medical team according to the patron of YWAM Australia Hon Mike Reynolds.
Patron of YWAM PNG Sir Rabbie Namaliu said traveling through the remotest parts of Papua New Guinea to deliver health service is a challenge with the geographically scattered population during the unveiling of the new dental clinic on-board the YWAM ship in Port Moresby. He says it is not about sophisticated machines but about celebrating and preserving the lives of Papua New Guineans who do not have access to basic health services.
