Arore wants UNRE Oro Campus to be resurrected


The general statistics of the intake of students into tertiary institution in PNG for 2016 has decreased with the closure of the Popondetta University of Natural Resource and Environment campus.

There was a withdrawal of the staff, operation and financial support as per the decision of the National Executive Council 2014.
This is according to the re-elected member for Ijivitari Hon. David Arore at the parliament sitting today.
Mr Arore appealed to the national parliament and the Minister for the Department of Higher Education and Research and Technology (DHERST) Hon. Malachi Tabar to consider restoring the institution which is the only higher education institution of the Northern Province.
Arore said his district has committed K500 000 from the Joint District Budget Planning to resurrect the campus however there is a need of assistance from the national government. He raised a question to the Minister Malachi Tabar at the floor of Parliament this morning as to what the Department of Higher Education is doing in regards to the issue which has seen increased number of school dropouts in the country.
In response minster Tabar said that there is a need of collaborative efforts for from the Provincial Executive Council for a resolution and his department of which they are working on ground at the moment.
Northern Governor Hon, Garry Jufa also responded that his office is currently working on the matter and is open for collaborative initiatives. PNGFM / PNG Today
