Moves to set up court of appeal ill-motivatred : Kouza
The O’Neill-led government’s intention and timing to establish a three-tier National court system in the country have left so much to be desired, says Lae MP Loujaya Kouza.
Ms Kouza said there was no need in bringing this particular law to Parliament yesterday (Wednesday) to create a Court of Appeal in light of a few politicians’ allegations of corruption cases which are before the courts or their decisions are soon to be delivered.
She said next week the Supreme Court was going to hand down a decision in relation to the Prime Minister’s warrant of arrest.
Kouza, who exited the chamber in protest, said this has brought the Constitutional amendment bill into question.
“It could have been easily brought to the floor at another session by the alternative government or by somebody else from the government.
“I did not take part in the vote is simply because the timing was wrong. The intention was not only wrong but the initiator was ill-motivated as well,” she said.
The shadow minister for Community Development said now they had a situation where avenues in the National and the Supreme Courts were exhausted.
To create the court, she said, is a very smart move by a very intelligent Prime Minister of this country.
“We have never had in the history of this country such an intelligent, brilliant architect of evil that has made a space on the third floor now.
“The timing and the intention of the captain of the ship are to get up to the third floor and continue to stay in power in the seat of CEO until we go to the 2017 General Elections,” she said.
Kouza said there was no guarantee that there would be no other laws, which swiftly find their way for the rest of this year and next year, locking in single PNC party that will continue to rule this country.
