2016 PNG Development Cooperation Policy launched
Projects implemented by donor agencies and Development partners in the past have been done through their own initiative and research , however this is about to change as the Department of National Planning& Monitoring officially launched the 2016 PNG Development Cooperation Policy (PNG DCP).
Before representatives from various foreign embassies developing partners, Non Government Organisations (NGO) and government representatives Minister for National Planning Charles Abel in launching the 2016 PNG Development Cooperation Policy said “the goal of the policy is to ensure development cooperation resources and ensuring that donor agencies, and development partners implement projects that are enshrined in the Medium Term Development of PNG’s goals and directives so that a systematic process is followed focused on impact areas, which also supports the government’s key policies and strategies which is necessary in coordinating the efforts of all Development partners”.
The objective of the policy goal will be achieved through (3) key inter-related objectives which are to identify development cooperation sources and devise appropriate strategies to contribute towards implementation of the Medium Term Development Plan and its supporting development plans and strategies; to strengthen partnership between key institutions and stakeholders involved in development cooperation mobilization, coordination, performance and management and delivery, focusing on developing capacity and strengthening systems and finally to institutionalize and coordinate PNG’s regional assistance to recipient countries devised within the context of the Melanesian Way helping those in need.
In officially cutting the ribbon and handing over the policy to the Secretary of Department of National Planning Ms. Hakaua Harry, Minister Abel thanked all Development Partners for their continued commitment and said going forward a much more systematic organisational coordination and cooperation will be carried out with the focus on impact on all levels and the Department of National Planning is looking forward to greater collaboration and strategic intervention in supporting the Governments Development Agenda.
