Fiji PM Bainimarama will not attend MSG Leaders Meeting in Port Vila

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says he will not be attending the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Leaders Summit in Port Vila next month.

He told the Fiji Sun newspaper that instead, he will be attending the Queen's 90th Birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle in London with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces band.

He confirmed that he had been invited by the Queen.

PM Bainimarama said the Port Vila meeting will discuss the appointment of Amena Yauvoli as MSG Director General.

He said Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu have questioned the procedures that led to the appointment of Ambassador Yauvoli, claiming it was wrong.

"That's what they are saying and they want our next meeting in Port Vila to discuss it, said Bainimarama.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola is likely to represent Fiji at the Leaders Meeting.
