Indian President arrives in Papua New Guinea
President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee arrived in Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby today with a delegation consisting of more than 100 business investors and Government officials. Papua New Guinea's Deputy Prime Minister Leo Dion was at the Airport to meet and welcomed the president to Papua New Guinea.
The historic two-day visit by President Mukherjee, from April 28-29, will be the first-ever visit by a Head of State of India and South Asia and will mark a significant milestone for Papua New Guinea - India relations.
TheIndian business contingent is interested in PNG’s health sector, economic cooperation, ICT, Transport, our SOE’s and the Petroleum Sector.
Following his arrival, the President met with Governor General, His Excellency, Sir Michael Ogio, before heading up to Bomana to pay his respects to fallen Indians who are believed to be buried at the War Cemetery while fighting with allied forces.
He then meets with the Prime Minister, Peter O’NEILL and Opposition Leader, Don POLYE today before attending a State Dinner this evening.
A number of very important agreements are expected to be signed between the two countries tomorrow onwards before the Delegation heads to New Zealand.
It was also interesting to note that Papua New Guinea's Constitution -enacted in 1975 is based on India's Constitution. PNGFM/ PNG Today
