The decision to revert the format of matches under the 2016 Digicel Cup competition to the original format was done to improve and drive more excitement amongst fans and the game itself.
This will mean, fans now get a chance to see all the 11 teams playing at venues or centres nationwide and also at the New National Football Stadium.
PNGNRL Administrator, MR Stanley Hondina made these remarks this week, adding that they have taken on some approach this season covering a whole range of issues involved with the game.

Rugby League should also be about creating a family oriented atmosphere and this is PNGNRL’s main goal to take the competition to the next level with the help of all the stakeholders involved.
Mr Hondina said he is happy that now PNG has a world class stadium in Port Moresby thus, PNGNRL must step up to match the level of class at the stadium which will be through developing mechanisms to can move the Digicel Cup competition forward.
