PNG Rugby League benefiting from PNG Hunters
Rugby league throughout the country is enjoying resurgence, the rewards of having a PNG team playing in a higher level competition like the Queensland Intrust Super Cup is reaping benefits and results are showing with the recent win by the Kumuls against the Fiji Batis.
“This is a great time to be involved in rugby league the improved standard and level of competition has stemmed from having the SP PNG Hunters team in the Qld Intrust super cup, and with the world class facilities now made available to youngsters on home soil who are affiliated to leagues all over the country, the standard and bar is rising”, said POMRFL Administrator Meke Maino,
Maino added that due to the Hunters development program young talent can be identified, names like Zemming, Wera, Boaz and Olam have become household names throughout the country, and for youngsters to see and watch their local rugby league team and heroes playing week in week out on TV and in person is an added bonus which lights the path to international recognition for many young rugby league players in the country.
