Polye calls on UPNG council to reconsider decision
PNG Opposition leader Don Polye has called the UPNG council to reconsider its decision to suspend the first semester of the 2016 academic year for an indefinite period.
Mr. Polye who met with the university administration and members of the council at the Waigani campus to find out the reason for the suspension, warned that the education system will be in chaos if this academic year is terminated.
“The final years must graduate with their degrees and pass out at the end of the year so everyone else down the line must move up the ladder and provide room for the younger ones to enter the system,” he said
Mr Polye said based on the briefs he got from the university administration and the council members the circular of the suspension issued was just a threat to allow for normalcy to return and the academic calendar would be realigned.
He called on the students not to panic and keep calm on campus as they did not violate any tenancy agreement of the university nor did they commit an offence against the State
He said students have risked their education which was their parents’ investment and took a bold step to step up and fight for the silent majority concerning the manner in which the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is running the affairs of this country.
He claimed that O'Neill was controlling all the important state institutions to safeguard his own political interest and personal gain and it is really frustrating for any thinking citizen of this nation....read more on >> PNG Education News Online
