Polye : I'm a victim of Electoral Commissioner's Error

PORT MORESBY: An error by the Returning Officer for Kandep Open Electorate, Naipata Kier has resulted in National Court staying the election victory of, Don PombPolye until the counting of disputed ballot boxes.

Justice Makail ruled that the then Returning Officer failed to have the person who disputed ballot boxes register his dispute by way of filling the state declaration form as per the law.

The returning officer also failed to have this dispute registered by way of state dec.

There are five disputed ballot boxes which the court ruled for it to be counted.

Mr Polye said he won the Kandep Open electorate by a big margin only to be set aside due to the error by the Electoral Commission and its agents.

“I am just a victim of an error by the Returning Officer,” said MrPolye.

“I urge my people of Kandep, my supporters and clansmen to remain calm as I consult my lawyers on the next course of action,” said Mr. Polye.

Of the four grounds raised by the petitioner, Alfred Manase, three have been ruled in favour of Mr.Polye.
