TFF funds for second quarter to be released this week
Minister for Education Nick Kuman said K75.6 million of TFF funds for term two would be released to schools starting this Friday.
Mr Kuman in responding to media queries on the TFF disbursement for this year said TFF disbursement for 2016 is on line because it remains the Government commitment to ensure funds are made available to eligible schools throughout the country.
Mr Kuman acknowledged that disbursements of funds were slow for the second term, and he attributed that to the cash flow situation the country is currently in.
The schools are now in the middle of the second term and, the Minister is sure the Department of Finance will have disbursed K75.6 million to the schools next week.
“This is half of this term’s money. So we are a bit slow due to our cash flow situation in the country but, again we are committed to delivering the TFF to schools and the Government is here to deliver those commitments so we will ensure that those monies will be paid.”
The Minister said disbursement of TFF funds for the last term of 2015 were being delayed due the cash flow situation.
He said when the money became available the funds were held back and paid K200 million to schools beginning of term one this year; K50 million for term one last year and K150 million for term one of this year.
“We paid the first term’s TFF, about four weeks into school. So meaning that the first term the Government obligation in regards to TFF is being fully met, and that is where we are,” he clarified.
“So, there should be some left over from last year, and our commitment to TFF this year first term is being fully paid. And I don’t see any reason why the schools should close down or close the doors and allow the students to go back home,” said Mr Kuman.
