UPNG Student leaders want PM O’Neill to surrender to Police
The University of Papua New Guinea student leaders are calling on Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to surrender to police for questioning. In a 7 point petition, the student leaders want Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to submit himself to the rule or law, by complying with his Warrant of Arrest and voluntarily present himself to the Police Fraud Squad to allow the Criminal Process to take effect.
The second recommendation is for Police Commissioner, Gari BAKI, to comply with the terms of the Court Order of the 18th of April 2016, by disbanding the Internal Commission of Inquiry and allow the Director of the Fraud and Anti-Corruption Squad and his men to continue the investigation without interference and undue influence in order for those who have allegedly committed any form of corruption to be investigated immediately.
Meanwhile, the University of Papua New Guinea is currently on lock down as students indicate that they are very cautious about who is going in and out of the campus area during this time. Only students with ID cards are allowed in. Classes are suspended for one week at the university after students decided to boycott in a protest against the prime minister.
