Enga UPNG students walk off meeting

Enga students from the University of Papua New Guinea walked off a meeting with Governor Peter Ipatas on Saturday.

Mr Ipatas had called a meeting for parents of students, working Enga people and the students in Port Moresby in a move to find a way forward for Enga students at the institution.

Mr Ipatas called on the students to return to class saying whatever they have set out to achieve is before the Government and they should return to their studies.

Other prominent Engans who spoke at the gathering to urge the students back into class were lawyer Alfred Manase and Chairman of the Enga Development Forum Peter Mision Yaki.

However the students walked off the meeting saying they will stand their ground and continue to pursue their cause to call for the Prime Minister to step down from office.

The Enga Provincial Government is the leading government in the country providing extensive help for its students in tertiary institutions with over K280m in education investment so far.

It has close to 2,000 students attending state universities and other higher level tertiary institutions across the country.
