New Zealand Foreign Minister in PNG
New Zealands Foreign Minister, Murray McCully, is in the country, after arriving yesterday.
According to a statement from the Foreign Affairs Department, Mr. McCully is on brief visit with the European Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development Neven Mimica.
They are expected to hold bilateral talks with the PNG government, before the New Zealand EU Pacific Partnership Mission travels to Vanuatu, Kiribati and Tuvalu.
They are accompanied by New Zealand's Minister for Climate Change Issues, Paula Bennett.
"Mr. McCully says New Zealand and the European Union work closely together in the Pacific, particularly in support of renewable energy initiatives. He says the mission will see progress across the region and look for new areas of cooperation. Commissioner Mimica took part in the 8th African Caribbean and Pacific Summit, and also discussed with Prime Minister, Peter O'Neill, cooperation in areas of mutual benefit and deepening economic and trade ties. A statement from the European Commission says Commissioner Mimica will announce additional financial support of 14.5 million Euros for Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Fiji, Marshal Islands, Micronesia and Palau to strengthen food security and build resilience.
