Tabar Welcomes Restraining Order on protesting students
Papua New Guinea’s Minister Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, Hon. Malakai Tabar, MP, has welcomed the order by the National Court that restrains members of the UNPG Student Representative Council from preventing students from attending classes.
The order prevents Kenneth Rapa and SRC members from barricading or locking classrooms and lecture theatres or threatening and assaulting legally enrolled students and university staff.
“The thuggery of these opportunists must end and the violence has to stop,” said the Minister. "The overwhelming majority of students simply want to go to class, sit their exams and proceed to the next semester.
"Hard working students have been held hostage by the people with political agendas and that has now been brought to an end by court order. “We all know that the real ringleaders behind the incident on Monday are not students, and now it will be hard for them to hide amongst the student body." The restraining order was handed down by the National Court of Justice at Wagani onMonday, 8 June 2016.
