Health Services in PNG to scale down as doctors protest against PM O'Neill

Health Services nationwide will scale down as of today to show the doctors support of the other unions on protest currently against Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.

According to Dr. Sam Yokopua, a senior doctor at the Port Moresby General Hospital, the National Doctors Association has instructed all management of the hospitals and health centres in the other provinces in a memo to scale down work until the 04th of August when a response from the prime minister on their petition is given.

This means all hospital will cut back on outpatient and doctor service; however, only the emergency units will be open for any emergency cases.

Dr. Yokopua says this action is not from the Unions industrial action stand point which is the 21 days notice to step down, but is in support of their fellow union members like the pilots and maritime workers who have gone on a stop work protest as part of the civil disobedience move by professional workers.
