ICT to boost Medical Supply in PNG
THE Health Department is embracing information communication and technology to improve the distribution of medical supplies to all health facilities in PNG.
ICT interface with m_Supply and the project rollout was discussed during the Health Department stakeholder workshop of medical supply distribution held in Lae last week.
Secretary for Health Pascoe Kase said ICT approach created a system called m_Supply to improve storage, management and distribution of medical supplies, mostly the management of medicines.
"This is a new development adopted by the health sector and is already implemented in a number of areas medical stores and provincial hospitals indicating good results and certain future for the department," Mr Kase said.
He said this will cost a lot of money but it is an investment that cannot be ignored so he will be talking with the Government to assist and developed the ICT system that can support the medicine procurement, management and distribution.
Health ICT manager John Mondo said the department is embarking on improving and building its ICT infrastructure so building e-health ICT platform is the core system m_Supply to tract medical supply distribution stage.
Mr Mondo said the m_Supply shows real time information due to the fact that it has three modules which is the procurement, management and dispensary.
"The system has the ability to monitor and capture health facilities report of patients; process of medical supply distribution and how adequate they can receive help in terms of medical supply from other AMS while waiting for their supply to come in," he said.
Mr Mondo said that the new m_Supply will solve a lot of countless issues faced by the health sector in past in terms of shortage of drugs which medical supplies not reaching the health facilities on time.
